IFPTE Advocacy on the Hill – Dec. 2016

Stone, Henson and Nelson Meet with Hill Staff

Gay Henson, IFPTE Eastern Federal Area Vice President, and Lee Stone, IFPTE Western Federal Area Vice President, along with Mark Nelson, IFPTE Local 4, visited with key committee staff on Capitol Hill to discuss federal employee related concerns.

The group, accompanied by IFPTE legislative staff, alerted Hill staff about IFPTE’s concerns that the next Congress could target cuts to federal employee pensions and health care, and additional pay freezes next year. They also discussed the importance of federal official time, pointing out that official time not only produces hundreds of millions of dollars for the U.S. taxpayer, it is used exclusively for the purposes of fulfilling the legal requirement to represent all members of a collective bargaining unit, whether they pay unions dues or not.

Henson, Stone and Nelson met with the Majority and Minority staffs on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and the Majority staff on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
